Know Your SALADs



Salad is any of a wide variety of dishes, including vegetable salads; salads of pastalegumeseggs, or grains; mixed salads incorporating meatpoultry, or seafood; and fruit salads. They may include a mixture of cold and hot, often including raw vegetables or fruits.








Salads may be served at any point during a meal, such as:

§  Appetizer salads- light salads to stimulate the appetite as the first course of the meal.

§  Side salads- to accompany the main course as a side dish.

§  Main course salads- usually containing a portion of protein, such as chicken breast or slices of beef.

§  Palate-cleansing salads- to settle the stomach after the main course.

§  Dessert salads- sweet versions usually containing gelatin or whipped cream.


TYPE OF SALADS

Green salad

Green salad or garden salad is most often composed of leafy vegetables such as lettuce varieties, spinach, or rocket (arugula). Due to their low caloric density, green salads are a common diet food. The salad leaves may be cut or torn into bite-sized fragments and tossed together (tossed salad), or may be placed in a predetermined arrangement (composed salad).

Green salads include leaf lettuce and leafy vegetables with a sauce or dressing. Other salads are based on pasta, noodles, or gelatin. Most salads are traditionally served cold, although some, such as south German potato salad, are served warm.
Green salads and other salads, including leaf lettuces are generally served with a dressing, as well as various garnishes such as nuts or croutons, and sometimes with the addition of meat, fishpastacheeseeggs, or whole grains.

Vegetable salad

Vegetables other than greens may be used in a salad. Common vegetables used in a salad include cucumberspepperstomatoesmushroomsonions, spring onionsred onionsavocadocarrotscelery, and radishes. Bound salad

A bound salad can be composed or tossed. They are assembled with thick sauces such as mayonnaise. One portion of a true bound salad will hold its shape when placed on a plate with an ice-cream scoop. Examples of bound salad include tuna saladpasta saladchicken saladegg salad, and potato salad - American-style potato salad with egg and mayonnaise. Bound salads are often used as sandwich fillings and are popular at picnics and barbecues.


Main course salads

Main course salads or dinner salads or entrée salads in North America may contain grilled or fried chicken pieces, seafood such as grilled or fried shrimp or a fish steak such as tunamahi-mahi, or salmon. Sliced steak, such as sirloin or skirt, can be placed upon the salad. Caesar saladChef saladCobb saladGreek salad, and Michigan salad are types of main course salad.




Fruit salads


Fruit salads are made of fruit, and include the fruit cocktail that can be made fresh or from canned fruit. With or without dressings like curd, whipped cream, ice cream etc.




Dessert salads

Dessert salads are often sweet and rarely include leafy greens content. Common variants are made with gelatin or whipped cream viz. jello saladpistachio saladsnickers saladglorified rice, and cookie salad popular in parts of the Mid-western US.

Overweight kids have lower levels of vitamin D irrespective of season, sex, or race and ethnicity....



According to a cross-sectional study, at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, 92% of obese children had inadequate levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH)]D), compared with 68% of slimmer kids and half of the obese children had vitamin D deficiency, compared with 22% of thinner kids. Also these obese children had signs of Insulin resistance i.e. pre-disposition for Diabetes in future.

The findings come from a snapshot of 411 children, ages 6 through 16, whose body mass index (BMI) was at least in the 95th percentile for age, and who had been referred to an obesity center at Children's Medical Center Dallas.


They were compared with 87 children -- matched to the obese group by season when the data was acquired, age, and race/ethnicity -- who were below the 85th percentile of BMI for age. 


They were a convenience sample of otherwise healthy patients being treated for congenital hypothyroidism, acquired primary hypothyroidism, or isolated growth hormone deficiency.




The researchers measured levels of 25(OH)D, blood sugar, and serum insulin, as well as BMI and blood pressure. Participants were also asked about their diet, including daily intake of soda, juice, and milk, average daily fruit and vegetable intake, and whether or not they routinely skipped breakfast.


For this analysis, inadequate vitamin D was defined as a serum level of 25(OH)D below 75 nmol/L (30 ng\mL) and deficiency was defined as below 50 nmol/L (20 ng/mL).

The analysis showed that, on average, the obese children had a serum 25(OH)D concentration of 49 nmol/L, compared with 67.5 nmol/L for the slimmer cohort. The greater intake of soda and juice, as well as routinely skipping breakfast intake, were associated with lower serum 25(OH)D.

Researchers commented that the study cannot prove a cause-and-effect relationship but "does suggest that low vitamin D levels may play a role in the development of type two diabetes."

Not many people are aware that in most cases physical rather than psychological causes are responsible for impotence (ED), and that ED is usually eminently curable by holistic herbal remedies without any side-effects.


WHY???,

 The Sexual impotence is perhaps the most poorly understood and mismanaged of all medical disorders. Two factors are responsible for this unfortunate state of affairs.

Contrary to popular belief, impotence is almost never an 'ALL OR NONE' phenomenon. Most laymen (and several doctors) believe that a man can either have an erection of very good quality or none at all. Most men with erectile dysfunction have normal desire and can obtain an erection, only the erection is not hard enough or doesn't last long enough,

It is believed that Impotence is a result of Stress and lack of sex education, which does not require any medical treatment. But, it is now known that in 75-90 percent of cases, one or another physiological cause. Natural herbal treatment is safe, mild and highly effective in managing such subjects with no side effects.
What then causes impotence (ED)? Although impotence can afflict anyone from 13year of age to 90year of age and is associated with a wide variety of clinical conditions and diseases (see box above) the basic mechanisms causing impotence are mentioned below. All of these can be accurately identified using modern investigative techniques and treat to the level best by herbal remedies free of heavy metals.

CAUSES OF SECONDARY IMPOTENCE

Arteriogenic: Where the arteries supplying blood to the penis do not bring in enough blood to cause an erection. This can occur because of a narrowing of the arteries as in the elderly, diabetics (as many as 50 per cent of all diabetics are impotent) and those with high blood pressure or because of injury to the genital region which causes a block in the artery to the penis.

Today, it has been established that impotence (ED) is a warning sign, for future cardiovascular diseases like heart attacks and strokes. Diseases of arteries affect the smaller arteries (penis) before they affect the larger ones (heart and brain).
  

    Venogenic: Venogenic impotence is extremely common, as much as 30-70 percent of all impotence subjects. Some men have venogenic impotence from birth (primary). Such men have never had a rigid erection all their lives. Others develop venogenic impotence suddenly after years of normal sexuality (secondary).


Neurogenic: Many things can disturb the nerve supply to the penis. Injuries to the back (vertebral column), pelvic or perineal region. In some case following operations on the rectum, prostate, urethra, spine, retro-peritoneum, urinary bladder etc.


Endocrinologic (Hormonal): This occurs when there is an imbalance or insufficiency of sex hormones in the blood stream. It accounts for about 5 to 10 per cent of all organic impotence. Generally, hormonal changes affect the libido (or sex drive) rather than the quality of the erection per se. A variety of disease conditions can cause these changes.




Mixed: Sometimes, more than one factor can be operative in the same patient. Such patients generally have systemic disease. Notable examples are diabetes, kidney failure and liver failure.
